Lawrence W. Jobe, 95, Oblong, Illinois passed away Saturday, November 3, 2012, at his residence. He was born in Belleville, Illinois on December 4, 1916, the son of Walter and Elizabeth (Otto) Jobe. Lawrence served in the Army Air Corp during W. W. II with the 316th Troop Carrier out of Scott Air Force Base serving in several European locations. Lawrence was co-owner of Helen’s Style Shop which opened in Oblong in August, 1946. Lawrence & Helen owned the shop for 38 years until 1984, when their daughter took over the store. He was a member of the Central United Methodist Church, Oblong; Past Commander of the Oblong American Legion Post #219; Lion’s Club, Robinson Elk’s Lodge, he was one of the founders of the Oak Glen Golf Course; Robinson V. F. W.; Oblong Town Board; Oblong Chamber of Commerce and served as an Election Officer at the First National Bank for several years. Lawrence enjoyed gardening, fishing and playing golf.
On March 1, 1946, he married Helen G. Williams, who preceded him in death on December 19, 2008. Also preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers, Ralph, Robert and Walter Jobe and one sister, Viola Loeb.
Lawrence is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jim & Cheryl Jobe and Jack Jobe; a daughter, Janet Jobe Schilowsky; four grandchildren, Brian Bennett, Chris & Kara Jobe, Cory Jobe and Abby Schilowsky; two great-grandchildren, Kyndal Jobe and Landen Keller; several nieces and nephews; and special caregivers Elaine and Glenda.
Pastor Mick Laflin will officiate the funeral service. Burial will be in the Oblong Cemetery, Oblong, Illinois.
